It is very, very possible that this could happen. When the chain breaks, it is spinning at a very quick speed and will fly all around the engine bay, smacking anything in its path. Engine valves are in the line of fire, so they can indeed be bent.
Would the motor be damaged if the timing chain broke om a 2008 Mazda6 2.3 vvti?
