Normally clicking means low battery or bad connections. Battery needs to be fully charged! You can bypass the solenoid by making a connection between the 2 large copper post (booster cable) if the battery is charged fully, that should make the starter work. I've done it using channel locks but it's not the best way to make that connection, wear gloves and eye protection-sparks fly. If you have a fully charged battery and can't get the starter to work by connecting it directly to 12V on a good battery, the starter is the problem:) To test bad battery connections: Turn the headlights on and have someone watch them as you turn the ignition key. If the lights go completely out when you go to the start position, it's bad connections/battery. If they just go a little dim, you have another problem.
