Valve cover Holes

i have holes in my valve covers the passenger side hole has a pcv valve that goes to a hose that hangs loosly open ended the driver side goes to a hose that connects to the base of the carburetor in the from and has an oil filler cap on it I just want to know where these hoses actually go

The PCV hose ran to a manifold vacuum source, I'm a little fuzzy on your description of the other hose, but it sounds like the crankcase breather, it would have plugged into the air cleaner assembly through a grommet with some filter material behind it. These would be the crankcase breather & PCV system; the breather allows filtered air into the top of the engine while blowby gasses are sucked out of the other side of the engine through the PCV valve.
