what would make my car start needing to be sprayed with starting fluid to start it (after the first couple starts)?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

long story short.

I went prison for three years. Got out. When I got my car back, it started by
key for the first couple starts of the day. After those first couple initial starts, I
have to spray it with starting fluid in order to start it. That fuel line is new. The
fuel pump is new. The gas tank is new. The fuel pressure regulator is new.
The fuel filter is new. How can I find out and check the throttle body and or
injectors for possible malfunction?

85 was like a transition year between carburetors and TBI fuel injection , what exactly do you have ? If the fuel pump is in the tank it you should hear it prime the system when you hit the key , check relays , swap identical ones around to check

it looks like throttle body injection ( TBI ) , it should prime the system when you hit the key and I guess it's not doing that , no telling what the someone did , I won't call him a mechanic because if he was you wouldn't have the problem , his work would have to be checked , I don't want to be an ass but thats the way it is , anything else would be an assumtion , check ground and power at the fuel tank disconnect , see if the injector is firing when it turns over
