Where is the starter solenoid located on my '87 Mercury Grand Marquis ?

It is recommended to also replace the starter solenoid with the starter motor which is attached to the transmission housing. But where is the starter solenoid located ?

Look to the left of your battery, your positive battery terminal connects to the starter solenoid
