Transmission Fluid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A “25% transmission fluid” like came on in my car
tonight. I am going to take it in tomorrow. Do I need
to get a transmission fluid change or do I need to
have them just re fill it?

Change it. If your car only had one quarter of the fluid it would not move.

Do you know how much it would cost, ball park. when I look online it says anywhere from 80-250. I just want to make sure that I don’t get ripped off. It does have a sealed transmission... I don’t know if that would make a difference

Shop around if you are concerned. Make sure they use the exact correct fluid as specified in your owners manual. Don't accept the one size fits all fluids that the oil change shops push. The cost to change the fluid is pennies compared to the cost of a new transmission. I would say that $80 is probably low for full synthetic fluid and a filter.

I just got a quote from a Local ( Connecticut ) Cadillac Dealer, to change Tranmission fluid on a 2010 CTS- $395.00 ? Does this sound right ? ( he said they flush it and change filters ) I never imaged a fluid change could cost so much.
