how do u test a thermistat?

Pot of water and a meat thermometer. Place thermostat in water making sure it covered. Place the thermometer in the water -NOT- touching the pot, just the water. Heat on stove until the thermostat opens fully and check the thermometer so you know at what temperature the water is when it does. Most thermostat have a operating temperature stamped on the flange so you know when it should open up.
