what is wrong with my car when water is leaking out?

My car is running hot so I put water in it but when I put water in it the water runs right back out what could be wrong with it?

It could be many things. May want to first check your hoses, radiator cap, and reservoir since those are cheaper fixes but it can be many things really.

I have the same problem water seems to be coming from above the alternator somewhere,where is your water leaking from can you tell is it from top or bottom?

I didnt ask my mother where the mechanic said it came from but i had to get a new water pump.
