Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey, I got an issue with a 1967 Pontiac CATALINA regarding the startup of
the car. I've changed the battery, the spark plugs, and repaired the
bendix(electromotor)(it was full of oil) but the car still doesn't start. When I
crank the engine (of course with the starter) it sounds good and it
looks/sounds like it gonna start but then it losses the compression,
sometimes it's like the engine starts for like a brief second(helped by the
starter) but then it stalls. I'm from Romania, the car was imported from
America and the motor parts might be an issue if it needs new parts
installed. One problem I saw was that it spits out gas from the carburetor,
from the air intake(like spitting gas into the air filter).

What size motor? When it spits in the carburetor is it spitting from the intake manifold up or from the top of the carburetor into the intake manifold?

You need to read up on points type ignition systems! Once you get the timing right then you can tackle the carburetor.

Size is 6.4L V8, it spits from the intake manifold up to the carburetor. I think it's because of some intake valve. I ordered a compression meter and I wait to be delivered so I can check the compression in all cylinders.

did that, I searched on internet the order of ignition for pontiac v8 and checked it with the inscriptions(1-2-3...)on the intake manifold. The spark is good, and the order is all right.
