There may be a problem in the wiring harness in your steering column. The air bag warning is telling you that the air bags are not functional, would not deploy in a crash...I say this because I don't think it's a coincidence that this happens at the same time as you begin to hear sounds from the steering that should not be there. I recommend a mechanic, this is not a do it yourself type of deal, working with air bags
