Why do I have to feather the clutch so much to get out of 1st gear all of a sudden? 1978 CJ5 3-speed

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My jeep used to have enough power in first gear but now it takes alot of throttle and
feathering of the clutch just to get going in first.  What might be the cause of this?

I don't know when the last time you replaced the clutch, but judging by the year, it may be time for a new one. Not sure how a 78 operates, but there should be an adjustment on the clutch pedal under the dash. A threaded rod with a nut. Should be able to adjust the nut to gain more or less pedal.
