What gear is the car in before you insert the key? It should be in reverse.

thanks, with the manual I removed all the housing and was ready to proceed with getting someone to drill out the lock when I guess the lubrication released something and it turns I left the key in as its parked in the garage in the unlocked position and removed the battery connection from one pole. I am still curious if it could be hot wired in an emerg with the key inserted as there is pretty easy access to the ignition wires once the plastic covering-and shields are removed
