On the highway to Vegas over the weekend and allnof a sudden my oil light comes on in my 2006 dodge charger....it lost power and shut off...had it towed to a dodge dealership and they suggested a new engine at a cost of $6000....smh...i dont have that kinda money. I still owe $2000 on the car...any suggestions....women in distress !!!!##

That was God intervening...He said "You shalt pay the price for trying to go to Sin City, my child!" and then "Kaboom...he struck down with his all-mighty fist". LOL! Just kidding! But seriously, you should look at the cheaper option of getting a rebuilt engine versus a brand new one....Just curious if you were VERY low on oil when this happened?
'gmorning fellas. I was going to post that $6k is too much to pay for an engine, but looked around and a crate engine is $4500! Hemi $5500..for that car, A used engine, which I don't recommend anyway, are $1500, one with 70,000 miles on it! But uh, that username is kinda 'iffy' so I will just say to 'you' the dealer is going to be the highest cost but best warranty. But RacerX has a good question, you may have suddenly lost all oil pressure, for one reason or another and it does not take long for the engine to blow when that happens at 75mph

Thanks for the responses....i had a tune up done about a month ago and fluids where "checked out to be fine" smh....but apparently I had no oil. My car is sitting at the shop and I've gotta figure out something today ot their gonna start charging me a storage fee. Even if I buy a engine on line whos to say its really new...smh smh...im thinking i should just have it towed home until I can figure this out
If you buy a 'crate engine' that is a not new, but fully rebuilt, or what some call 're~manufactured', supposedly all new critical components, short block meaning everything except heads, 'long block' with cylinder heads already on with a valve job done on them. But you must be careful who you are buying it from. OK, now, as for the fluids being "fine a month ago", well in a month if you have, say bad valve guide seals, bad piston rings, a plethora of scenarios, the oil could have gone down to below enough to, say get you started on you trip to Vegas then somewhere on I15 with little or no warning... you lose oil pressure...than, as I said, you be tooling along at 80, (about average speed on that highway for cars and 18~wheelers) in 10 seconds with no oil pressure your engine is toast.
Oh yeah, if you but an engine on~line..well just don't. "used" when they claim 70,000 probably means 170,000. "Who's to say it's new"??? Therein lies the problem. The internet is a wonderful place to do many things, but buying an engine is not one of them. In my humble opinion
