If your going to do the work and your planning on buying the parts at the bone yard then expect to spend around $1000.00 when its all said and done. Having it done by a shop? $2500 - $3500.
Agree with boholmark, keep the poor man ac it is eqiupped with, 55 window,s down.
The parts are surprisingly cheap...compressor $150, condenser $80 evap $80 but there is much much more to it than that...expansion valves, lines, mounting brackets, getting the condenser to fit in if front of radiator. getting the evap under the dash, cutting holes here and there, finding a way to get a BELT on compressor, controls, that's a lot of money to spend on a 1989. All the logistics give me a headache just thinking of that job. Anything is possible but it will cost more than the present value of the truck. I have no reason to doubt BohoMark's numbers...he is very knowledgeable, but seems low to me. Many hours of labor. This is just a typical generic system, click on it
Good morning gentlemen...we used to call it 255 A/C 2 windows down 55mph
