Can large tires blow out the rear of my 89 c/k 1599

Asked by Guru9K9PV Jul 09, 2017 at 11:13 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My rear gears blew up and was told it's from my
tires being too big.
Can I replace the rear and keep my tires?
Would lifting help?
Tires are not rubbing .

Lifting only helps clear bigger tires, it doesn't reduce stress on the rear end. Any time you go bigger you put more stress on a vehicle. You should have the 8.5 10 bolt. I've been running 35's on the same rear end and its been fine. Just go get a new rear end and keep on trucking.
