Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2002 grand caravan that has a 1/2 hole open in the back of the
casing. it appears that there was once a plug there but I am not sure. It is
leaking of course from this hole.Does this mean the water pump needs
replacing and can I find a new plug to insert in the hole?

Water pump needs to be replaced that weep hole is there for a reason and that is to let you know when it starts to leak water pump needs to be replaced.
I cant seem to find replacement plugs. Does it come with the pump or do you know where to get them?
There is a hole in the back of the pump that has signs of leaking. See Photo

NO PLUG WATER PUMP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED
Did you look at the picture? If this hole is not plugged it will leak. I am thinking that there was a frost plug or something similar there.

Ok sounds like you are pretty persistent on a plug goes into that hole so here is what you do take the picture with you to the nearest part store and ask them for a replacement plug for that hole if anyone should have it should be them.
This is not the weep hole for the water pump as some suggested. There is a freeze plug at the back of the water pump housing which is , I believe, part of the timing chain cover. The water pump weep hole is integral to the pump that mounts on this housing. fairly accessible from underneath the car. Plug is most likely a dealer only item.
This is were the heater on car gets hot water there's supposed to be a nipple there
