Rough Idle Quad Cab 3.9 V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I took my truck through some mud the other day and noticed that my car had a really rough idle after. Then my exhaust started smelling like rotten eggs. Then my OBD said that I had an cyl. misfire on the number 4 cyl. I drove it to work one day because I couldn't get a ride and my car drove like crap for half of the way and then started running fine. Now when I start up. I don't get any engine codes. My exhaust doesn't smell and my car runs a little rough at idle. But my water temp gauge takes a long time to reach normal. Once it does, my truck runs fine. Could some body please tell me what is wrong with my truck. Thank you.

it may be time for a tune-up. new spark plugs, cap & rotor, and wires might help you out on your misfire issue. while you're at it, throw an oil change at it. when was the last time you had your truck serviced?

You are probably right about the plugs, cap and rotor and wires, but I changed the oil my self 1,000 miles ago. So my truck has been serviced a little bit, but I should try the electricals. I found water spots on the inside of my hood and the top of my fan shroud.

I have had a problem with rough idle with my 2000 dodge dakota 3.9. I have replaced my TPS, MAP, Bank 1 O2 Sensor which was the original code and my iac valve. I have been all over the internet and have realized that i should have just brought it to the dealership. They are expensive, but it would have been fixed by now. i AM DISGUSTED. These forums do not solve problems as they are answered by mechanics who make thier money if you cannot solve your problem
