Does it only die in low rpm situation? Such as idling or turning at red lights? If so I would clean and or replace idle air control valve.

Any codes stored? Finding several forums talking of same issues. They tend to lean toward a cam and or crank position sensor issue. Or maybe a map issue. Sorry I could not be of more help.

...in reality your on-board diagnostics will know what's happening with your car~ get them read at an autoparts store and report back~...you can get your own too~

We must diagnose if it is a fuel or electrical problem...when it is dead, does it turn over? can you hear the whoosh of fuel through the fuel rail in the "on" position prior to starting? if so then we will have to look at the spark and systems making the spark from happening...97 could still have a balast resistor, would have to pull up your electricals...but if you are finding the fuel pump to sometimes work would look to the proper grounding of the unit~
