transmission will not shift into all gears after check engine light comes on

  when the check engine light comes on after it has warmed up the trans will not shift into 4th back to park then you lose first gear and car will start in second gear  and only shift into 4th some times
there are no vaccuum lines so it most be electronic and there doe's not seem to be any down shifting happening ,is it an electicail moduel  or what is the cause of this probblem

Hi kimbob. Chances are that if the tranny works fine normally but does not after the check engine light comes on, you are dealing with a sensor issue. It doesn't mean the sensor is bad however, it's just that something is telling your tranny something it doesn't want to hear. You need to find out what's being said and whether there is any truth to it. Put this on in front of your local Dodge service manager. Good luck!

Ive got a 2004 dodge intrepid and my check engine light is on every since then when i come to a stop after its warmed up its like it will get stuck in 1st gear ill have to shut it off really fast then start it back up then it shifts just fine come to a stop not everytime but some times it will do it again havent really looked in to itbut going to start if you ask me most likely its the shift solenoid pack if that dont fix it then its the valve body bad valve body about a 70 dollar fix
