I lost my key to my 2000 Ford Focus can I
get the VIN number and have the dealership
make me a key or what is the cheapest way
about to get another key it does not have a
chip in it

Are you sure it doesn't have a chip in it? It would be hidden in the plastic top of the key. Dealership can make you a new one, IDK abut doing it from the VIN unless you go to the dealership that sold the vehicle when new, after 16 years it's iffy, just call them up and find out.
