Can't install new battery why????

Old battery was drained .went to install new battery and all hell broke out.
Horn was blurring,windshield wipers were going even though they were off,car wont start
,starter just whines,all warning lights are lit ,no power to windows or to power locks ,tried
to use alarm remote to no avail. Why
