Why does my 1989 Cutlass Ciera with the 2.5L engine stall, after battery replacement?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just had battery replaced on 1989 Cutlass Ciera, 2.5L, and now it stalls after a few minutes, and under 1/4 mile of driving.  Any idea as to why?

Throw the old battery back in it and see if it still does it, most likely does't have anything to do with the new battery.

Been having same problem. Ran car several timez this last month near empty on gas. I believe the gad filter got clogged with bottom-tank gook. It wld start up, drive, then cut out & not start right up. Battery/alternator ok. Guna change the gas filter 2 morro. Try that....might work

Had the same problem about 5 years ago with my 1992 Cutlass Supreme after it sat for 2 days with a dead battery. I called the local GM dealer and they told me of a few steps to correct the idle memory. It was something like start it and hold at 1500 rpms for 2 minutes then shut down and a few more steps....can't remember !!! Anyone know the steps ???
