ignition module on my 1989 Cutlass Ciera?

Asked by bekkire Feb 15, 2020 at 09:58 AM about the 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera SL Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1989 Cutlass Ciera with 70,100 on it and it runs great except.....
when it heats up it will start pulling and stuttering and when I get to a stop
sign or light it will stall. Once I pull over and it starts again, which isn't a
problem, the rpm's are racing.
Last year the same thing happened and the ignition module was replaced
and
that seemed to work, could that be the problem again?

Your cooling system needs maintenance, then I'd look for vacuum leaks and give it a tune up, before worrying about an ignition module.

There is no sign that its overheating, and I had a tuneup last year about 4000 miles ago. As I said, the car runs great until it decides to stall, then when you/I turn it back on, it's like read to roll!

My 89 did that and turned out to be the throttle position sensor. Running fine since then. That was 5 yrs ago.
