1998 Bantam not starting

Asked by Morne Jul 07, 2022 at 03:46 AM about the 1988 Ford Bantam

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1988 1.6 Ford Bantam. When I turn the key the normal dash lights
come on, but nothing from the starter, not even a click. Checked the battery and
starter motor wiring. It starts fine when I push-start or roll-start, but no reaction
at all from the starter

Is this the F6 engine or the 1600 EGI engine. These are Mazda engines for this year model. Check the Immobilizer system as well. The immobilizer system is the Shurlock system developed in Pietermarizburg. Does this system have the "Jack Plug" system or is it the transponder in the key.

Hi. Sorry for the long delay. How will I know which engine it is? All I know it is the original engine. It may have originally had a jack-plug immobilizer, but that has been removed/deactivated before I bought it.

Sorry , If its a 1988 Model it will be a CVH engine. Same as the Escort. Check the starter and the starter selonoid switch. It could be a battery problem as well
