How do I tell if my 1970 is a T37 or a GT37

Nice Car. What engine? 350? I thought the only model in 1970, besides a Lemans or Judge, was a T37. What is a GT37? The T37 replaced the Tempest/Tempest Custom from previous years. I believe it also had the F41 suspension which was a little stiffer than the standard Lemans offering.
Thanx for the reply,I know the GT-37 was an option on the T-37 there were 1400 made from mid 1970 I'm just not sure how to differentiate between the two.Mine is a 400ci and auto
Thanks for the info. I go back to the mid fifties with family cars and we have owned about 10 from the Tempest/LeMans/GTO lines. One was a 70 but it was a 350 Lemans. I was unaware of the GT37 option on the T37's, so I learned something from you. With the 400CID engine, the Rally Wheels, and the "no post" roofline, yours very well may be a GT37 but you will probably need to dig deeper into RPO codes or details in the VIN number. Do you have any original documentation that came with the car? That would help your search. There is a pretty good article about the GT-37's on Hemmings that you may want to read. Just google "Pontiac GT 37" and you'll see it. Good luck!
Not sure about the paperwork at this stage,I forgot to mention that I am in New zealand the car at the moment is on a ship heading this way I bought it off a guy in Sacramento, I had it inspected by a guy I know over there and it's sposed to be very tidy except for the interior which is a bit of a train wreck but it comes complete with a new interior kit, dash pad to rear parcel tray, carpet to headliner and everyting in between.I guess even if it's not genuine it's still pretty cool and will be very rear here in little ol' NZ. Cheers
Cheers, what part of the vin would tell me it's a GT37 as opposed to a T37,(man I sound like a real dummy)
Google P.H.S get the factory build sheet . it states on the build sheet GT-37 option also gives motor size hp rating ac or none. In basic you can build car back to original .
I bought a 1970 Tempest T-37 in 1976 it had a 350 with a 3 speed tranny and a 2 barrel Carb I believe this car was truly a T-37 just exactly like that
GT-37 Is an option on the T-37 in basic you checked all the right boxes at the dealership you got a GT-37 . Like mustang you have a mustang and a mustang GT . The title on a GT-37 Says T-37 the only way to know If you have A GT-37 is by the build sheet which can be obtained thru the Pontiac History / P.H.S documents. The first five 5 numbers on the VIN on a T-37 should be 23337.....
I had a 1971 GT37 It was my first car when I got my license in 1979 Mine was gold with the red stripes. It had a 400 c.i. motor. 4 barrel carb and a 3 speed manual shift. What I would give to have that car back. I am searching for one now with no luck. Enjoy your ride.
I have a 70.5 GT-37 400/4bbl/4spd,muncie rockcrusher. There was under 1400 produced in 3 half year implements.70.5,71,71.5.70.5 being the rarest,I found this out by a gentlemen that worked for Pontiac for over thirtyyears back in 1984/85 at a GTO meet in Pontiac Mich.I drove down from N.Y. and they were'nt going to let me in,being 22 yrs old I copped an attitude n told them to give me my money back n mich can kiss my ass.A gentleman came up n asked what was the problem,n the lady said I wanted to bring in a GT-37.He looked at me and asked was it a real one,n I said thats what the trunk n fenders say,but I have'nt been able to find much out.He said let him bring it in he wanted to check it out.As I did he looked at vin # and said it is original 70.5 Gt-37 n was suprised.70.5's come with the diecast emblems,n later models with stickers. The GT-37 package is a GTO with no thrills. They have bench seats ,fiberglass nose,n no scoops on hood.Which by the way lightened them up about 300 lbs.Mine was ordered with all drum brakes,no power steering,or brakes.no A/C.pretty bare boned,400/4bbl/4spd/posi rear 355/dual exhaust.Built this motor in a side garage at sixteen on my knees on floor with cardboard for engine protector.Brought out in April with new paint from BOCES friend n new drivetrain.WOW I BUILT EXCITEMENT!!! Have had this car pegged too manytimes,n have been told on many occassions that my left front tire is up off ground in first n second gear.Anyway that is some of the info I have found out by someone that drove a 71 gt37 as a company car n still had it at the show in 84/5.with 20k on it.His was loaded of course with tilt/cruise/power steering, brakes, disc on front,A/C,P/W.He stated that mine being bare boned was rare n probably the quickest n fastest, but did'nt stop well which usually meant a quick trip to junkyard because of being wrapped around a tree or whatever was in front of them. He's not lying it is faster than it is capable of stopping.Ohwell sorry for rambling and hope some of this helps.Oh Yeah I stll have it in storage.
