Motor Swap from 03 sprinter to an 04

Asked by Brittany Oct 23, 2018 at 08:52 AM about the 2004 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking for a time frame on how long it might take to do a Om612 motor
swap from an 03 sprinter to a 04 sprinter?
The 04 is all opened up and prepped with only the subframe and ecu still
intact..
We have left everything on the inside dash and have taken everything off of
the fire wall

a good tech should be able to do the change out in about 2 days and issues and another 1/2 day to the job..

You can tell your mechanic what you like. They will charge you the time is takes no matter how long.

He should know better than anyone else. Kinda strange that a mechanic would ask the customer how long it would take. Since he does not know I suspect it will take longer than usual due to lack of experience with your vehicle.

Since you stripped it down he may (will) have trouble figuring out where everything goes.

thanks for the ball park. he is an experienced mechanic just not so much with this specific sprinter van. the 03 with the om612 is 100 percent intact. runs and drives fine just little bit rusty doors. the 04 is a clean chasis with what i thought was a plug and play ecm. seams as if i have found different information that the electronic components are not adaptable to the om612. looks like were looking at swapping the motor and all of the ecu. thanks for your time. still interested to see if anyone has experience doing this or similar in-depth swaps so i can give the mechanic a estimate of time.
