If a mechanic replaced a part on a car, and it malfunctioned or wasn't the right part, are they liable to cover any damages caused by their faulty work? Details below.
A coworker of mine, her car when she
bought it, had issue with leaking
transmission fluid. The shop(of the
dealership) put thin rubber hoses to replace
the transmission line(removing the metal
ones that had rusted through), the hoses
hardly lasted a few months before leaking
started and then one day, they ultimately
shredded and fell off causing her
transmission fluid to completely drain from
her car. She got her line replaced again by a
different shop and the mechanic said that it
wasn't the correct hose and he was baffled
that they would put that on there. Within a
couple of weeks, no leaking, but her first 2
gears seem to not be working so she
hasn't been driving. The second mechanic
told her that she might have issues with her
transmission after the rubber hoses came
off. Was the first shop in the right for
putting the rubber hoses on her car? And
are they liable for her transmission failing?
