Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 1999 gmc jim.it's 4 door 2wd.it's been filled with fluid and some slick 50.i may not have a problem but this is wierd.when i check my tranny fluid when the truck is cold it shows fine but after i warm it up and check it,it barely shows anything on the stick.when i cut it off the fluid shows normal again.it's not leaking and drives fine but wont drive it since i found this wierd issue.is there any explaination for this?could it be something bad?thanks.

Well, when you have low fluid on your vehicle it can only happen for a few reasons. 1). A leak 2). Low fluid to begin with, when you start your car the fluid gets pumped through out the transmission, when you turn it off....it settles in the sump. 3). The seals between the transfer case and Transmission may be leaking between the 2 components. Fluid on a 4L60E should be checked with vehicle running and warm.

Ok thanks for your reply.i was told that a 2wd jimmy dont have a transfer case only the 4wd or maybe it was some other case. i dont know much about cars/trucks.i have checked everywhere underneath after cleaning everything that was dirty and had a piece of cardboard underneath for awhile now with no drips.i guess after the rain stops,i'll warm it up again and add a little fluid to see if it shows on the stick.thanks again.

Yes, you won't have a transfer case on 2wd applications, sorry, I didnt catch that fact in your original post......post again if you need any more help.

the tranny fluid should be checked with the engine running in Park. when the vehicle is warmed up. transmission fluid expands when it gets hot .
