Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My engine blew up on my 1998 ford escort right after i put alot of money on maintenance.
Im trying to find a new engine and I found plenty of good deals on 2.0l dohc engines but
when i check compatability since my 8th digit of the vin is P then the person i spoke with
said i need a SOHC low emmisions engine. I live in California. I dont know if that matters.

As with any Ford product, you should replace the engine with the same one that was original to the vehicle. Unless you are very knowledgeable in the electrical system the engine will not start or you will have issues with the operation of the vehicle, sensors, fuel system and many more electrical systems. Even though the harness connector looks the same, and plugs into the vehicle harness connector, the connection pins are different even if the engine is the same, but a different year.

Can I swap a v8 engine into my Ford Escort 1998 zx2 body I’m from Texas
Sure. Just start with a new frame and a lot of $$$$ for parts, a really sweet shop, sheet metal work, etc. I'd really like to see one with a V-8. Would be one off, that's for sure. My daughter drives a 99 Ford Escort zx2 with a 2.0L and O/D. $150.00 ran and drove, needed an A/C Compressor, and brakes a few other parts that controlled the idle. She's been driving it a year and it's already paid for itself. 30-35 mpg.
I want to change my '98 escort 1.8 diesel to petrol. Please advise
