what is this hole for? 1994 gmc sierra 4x4 k1500

I was changing the oil filter and noticed a hole, it has threads in it, seems to be an outlet plug for some kind of oil, the pan is shaped like a bloated belly its not tranny or oil pan. someone lose it or... I just got this oldie.

it looks to me like a gear oil container, its in line with the oil pan but towrds the rear, ,under the cab, before tranny tho.like between tranny and oil pan.
