verify the temperature before and after the thermostat - it is possible the gauge is faulty

if the coolant is full and the temperature is still low then its possible the new tstat is bad - that is the only temp controlling component I the system.

if you have acces to an inferred thermometer check tsat housing temp and make sure the housing gets to operating temperature

without a fan or with a fan if the tstat is stuck open it will not heat up properly

Do yo have access to a inferred thermometer (electric laser thermometer) you need to physically check the operating temperature of the vehicle - make sure it is warmed up properly - I'm not sure where you live, I live in Arizona so it only takes about 5-8 minutes to warm up a vehicle to operating temperature

I agree with MStamps, gotta be a defective tstat. Take it out and put it in a pan of water on the stove with a thermometer, see when it opens. It may be open now when you pull it.

Did you ever figure out a solution your problem??? I am having the exact thing happen with my 95 Chevy Cheyenne 2500!

Anybody figure out what it is? My 94 Chevy 1500 is doing the same thing. You can drive it for hours and get out and touch the motor. It's not hot. The temperature hand never moves. No heat, just blows cold air.
