P0305   Cylinder Number 5 Misfire Detected Severity Level: Moderate
   Quick Code Summary:
Code P0305 indicates that Cylinder 5 had too many misfires within a
predetermined period of time.

This condition will prevent the vehicle from running at its optimum efficiency
and fuel economy may suffer.

A misfire contributes to loss of power, higher emissions and can damage
components.
   Conditions For Setting This Code:
DTC P0136, P0156, P0171, P0172, P0175, P1130 and P1150 not set,
engine started, engine running under positive torque conditions, and the
PCM detected a misfire a misfire in Cylinder 5 during the 200 revolution
(Catalyst) or 1000 revolution (High Emissions) period. Note: If the misfire is
severe, the MIL will flash on/off on the 1st trip!
   Possible Causes:
Air leak in the intake manifold, or in the EGR or PCM system

Base engine mechanical problem that affects only Cylinder 5

Fuel delivery component problem that affects only Cylinder 5 (i.e., a
contaminated, dirty or sticking fuel injector)

Ignition system problem (coil, plug) that affects only Cylinder 5

Air leaks after the MAF sensor, or leaks in the PCV system

Exhaust leaks before or near where the HO2S is mounted

Fuel injector(s) restricted or not supplying enough fuel

Fuel system not supplying enough fuel during high fuel demand conditions
(e.g., the fuel pump may not supply enough fuel)

Leaking EGR gasket, or leaking EGR valve diaphragm

MAF sensor dirty (causes PCM to underestimate airflow)

These things need to get fixed in order to pass emissions. Are you looking for a break down on how to fix this stuff?

If you read this closely, it tells you that you have a random misfire, intake manifold and EGR leaks, and some other emissions problems.

When was the last time the spark plugs and the coils were changed?

Yes, I have found a couple vac leaks, but not sure if there are more. I cleaned and tested the MAF, and the coil tests ok too. I replaced the one plug in cyllinder 5, to see if this would solve the misfire, but it hasn't. The wire tests ok. Just hoping to get some troubleshooting suggestions.

Things to check...EGR Valve and base gasket & hoses for vacuum leak, snug up the intake manifold bolts, take the throttle body off and check or replace the base gasket, clean the throttle bode while it is off, Make sure the oil dip-stick is seated all the way down, check from the exhaust manifold down pass the O2 sensors for any air leaks, if there is a hole around or before the O2 sensor, it will not read correctly and set a code. The po305 has to be fixed, check the cylinder compression otherwise......P0305 FORD - Cylinder 5 Misfire...Possible causes; Faulty spark plug 5, Clogged or faulty fuel injector 5, Faulty ignition coil 5, Fuel injector 5 harness is open or shorted, Fuel injector 5 circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coil 5 harness is open or shorted, Ignition coil 5 circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinder 5 compression, Incorrect fuel pressure Intake air leak.

Oh yea, check the pcv valve, replace it and check the vacuum hose and system.
