1971 VW SUPER BEETLE ENGINE TURNS OVER BUT WONT START

My VW will turn over fine , but wont start. I have sprayed starting fluid, but nothing. I replaced coil and still nothing.No spark to center wire to ground.I get no voltage readings off the coil 1 to ground or 51 to ground with key on.Could it be the main wire from regulator to coil? If so, how can i check before I replace that as well?

Check the distributor cap, rotor and points.
i I checked those, and replaced cap , condenser, and points. Still turns over but no start.
I am going to post a link explaining how points ignition works as most people do not understand how it works. Coils don't spark on their own. This will take a while to show up.

I do not have spark when testing the main wire at the distributer. I pulled it off the cap and held it about 1/4 inch from ground and no spark. I do not see the link you said you posted either.
I read the article. Thank you. However, I checked the coil by first making sure the points were in open position and then attaching my voltmeter to the #1 to ground on coil and then the #15 to ground while turning motor over. Both readings indicate no voltage. According to a VW manual, no voltage on either, means that there is a break in the wire from battery to coil. Thus, I was wondering how to verify this before actually replacing it.
