Only one license plate

Question type: General

So I have a 1974 Super Beetle and I bought it with
the original blue plate on the back,  however,  there
is no front blue plate.  I know the law in California
says that cars must have a front plate and a back
plate.  I wanted to know if I could get a ticket for
having the one original blue plate in the back. I
have no idea what happened to the front plate,  I
think it might have been stolen since they are
collector's items now.  And I know if I go to the
DMV to get new plates,  they'll give me the
standard white plates and I'll have to get rid of my
original blue plate which adds to the historic
aspect of my car.  So, is it illegal to just have one?
Or is it okay because my car is old?

It's illegal. You might be able to apply for the blue lic. plate, you'll have to special order as a personal plate
