Replace your ORVR (On board Refuel Vapor Recovery) valve and charcoal canister. The valve has failed letting gas saturate your charcoal canister. Once the gas evaporates enough from the canister, it will start.

The way these systems are designed, you must resist the urge at the pump to squeeze in that extra fuel after the pump first clicks off. Adding fuel to "top it off" sends gas down the vent to the Charcoal Canister and saturates it. Then you end up having to do what Reelin68 says and replace everything.

My car also jolts and will turn off at a stand still shortly after I've pumped gas. I never top off, I only fill 3/4 and this only started happening the last year I've had this Kia Soul. I bought it in 2011. Now it won't turn on until after an hour. It used to turn on immediately after it will completely turn off at a red light or stop sign. This now happens right after I get gas while still at the gas pump. Yes I always turn off my car while filling up. It's happened 5 times in this past 10 months. 5 mechanics haven't been able to figure it out. Countless times I've expressed it must be a canister or something involved while filling gas. I also end up paying a 100& diagnostic or for some other crap the con me into yet this single problem still continues. I know I'm Getting ripping off because I'm just a chick. Anyone have any advice ?

I'm having the same problem with a Kia Optima. Did you ever find out the problem. I'm tired of getting ripped off too. Thanks

Here's the real fixed I also had the same problem. You need to replace the air intake hose. What really going on It's starting to fall apart. And this is the hose between the air filter and the air intake. And they are about $61.00 to buy. If you don't have money you can use electoral tape as a temporary fix. Make sure you rap the tape all around the hose. And you will notice the difference. But if you use the temporary fix for now. And you live in an area where you have smog check the car. You need you replaced before the smog check. Or your car will not pass smog.
