A loose or defective gas cap in modern vehicles can cause a check engine light. Tightening or replacing the gas cap will eventually cause the check engine light to go off after some time provided that was the problem in the first place. I would have reinstalled the gas cap and made sure it was tight before buying a replacement. Also I would not have purchased an aftermarket gas cap. I would have purchased from a Kia dealer.

Perhaps return to Autozone and have them tell you what the check engine light code is?

Have Autozone read the code and post the code number here. It may not be the gas cap. You also can ask Autozone to clear the code and see if it comes back.

New gas cap and light came back on likely means other issue.

My 2009 Kia Rio has had an oil change all spark plugs replaced all 4 coils replaced and my check engine light still comes on. The car hesitates and has difficulty getting power until going at least 50 miles an hour. I am so frustrated right now. I can't keep pouring money into this car.

Judi sounds like you may have a camshaft position sensor problems

According to your owners manual it is a problem with your exhaust system (catalytic converter).

I have a 2009 Rio5. Have replaced plugs, wire, coils, catalytic converter and sensors. Check engine still comes on after driving for 100 miles or more continuously. Over $3,000 later and no fix. I finally bought a code reader, but it shows no fault code. I now just use it to reset the CE light.

I have a Kia Rio Cinco that has 100,000 miles and I know nothing about its condition, other than it runs fine and passed smog. When turning it over to start it has crank delays but eventually turns over. When driving, it is especially loud, like a whirling noise that builds with speed. When turning sharply to the right sounds like a metallic plate is making contact and rubbing. Today, the solid check engine light appeared. I'm not a mechanic, so I assume to take it to one but I don't want to toss an exuberant amount of cash into this vehicle. I use it to commute to work about 15minutes from my home. That's it. Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated.
