1997 mustang gt installation of 1989 5.0 engine

The Long Block is basically all the same. Get the necessary gasket kits, take all of the covers and accessories off of the old motor and put on the new one. Intake and exhaust manifolds, oil pan ect.
No it's not. The long block is a completely different type of motor. A 97 gt has a 4.6 dohc 2 valve modular v8 backed by either a 4r70w auto or a Borg Warner 5spd manual. An 89 fox has a 5.0 sohv pushrod style v8 backed by either an aod auto or I believe a bw 5spd. The k member is similar but you will need mounts for a 5.0, complete engine, if you have a 5spd you will need the matching bell housing pattern version of trans so one from a v6 (which you will have to switch flexplates etc) or one from a 5.0 car, also needed is a computer to control it all. Either u need a trans controller for an electronic auto (or a stock auto ecu for your trans engine combo) or a manual trans with a manual stock ecu for your engine, also needed wiring supplies, fluids, gaskets etc. There's also the issues of the upgraded cooling system so either you'll need the radiator from the car the engine is from of you will need a "custom" setup to control fan and route coolant and also trans fluid as the 97 cars have a trans cooler behind the radiator. while we're on this subject the 302 engines used clutch fan. Post 95 cars had electric. Make sure your pump can displace enough fuel. Also make sure if the engine is a return style fuel system that the car is too or else you will have to convert that. The 5.0 will most likely fit under the hood but it may also be a couple inches too tall depending on intake used and the style hood on your car etc. Sorry to overload you but the other guy sent you down the wrong path and for that I'm sorry
Also I know this post is old but I don't want other people getting the wrong ideas
