Hi 1989 ... The short answer is "no necessarily". There we some changes (not the lest of which being fuel injection) between the two engines, but I couldn't find reference to tranny changes. Here's alink to the Mustang Forums (http://www.mustangforums.com/) where you'll find guys with much more specific knowledge. Try your question there, I'm sure someone will have the info. Good luck!
