Your switch is the problem. It's a bad ground or short.

The Lincoln in the automatic light mode will turn your brights on our off depending on brightness or if a car is coming, nothing is wrong.

Did you figure out the problem? I got the same thing happening To me. The passenger side headlight bulb turns on but its dim, few seconds later turns off I noticed I can turn it back on with the switch but turns off. I’m starting to think is the bulb?

same problem, was gonna switch the switch, Lincoln said it is most likely a ballast.

My 2009 MKZ has no low beam on the drivers side. Ballast was burned out. Got a replacement ballast and that is burned out, too. Mechanic wants to replace the entire headlight assembly! Please help!
