Modern Cars/Batteries

Asked by BrendaJeanne Dec 23, 2015 at 08:54 PM about the 2003 Hyundai Accent

Question type: General

Every winter I get stuck with a dead battery.  For
the first 10 years or so this didn't happen.  I spent
big bucks on a new alternator, wiring, and the best
battery possible, but like clockwork, dead batt.  The
guy who came today said it will do me no good to
get a new car, that it's in the computerization even
inside the battery, that new cars are even worse.  Is
this true?

CHECK FOR A DRAW AND PUT A BETTER BATTERY IN IT...EASY

Thanks so much for your helpful answers. As I said, I did my best in the best possible batt and draw dept. Maybe I can also help others here. It seems my problems have been in believing that the service people AAA send can be trusted to be reputable. It seems that is not the case. I don't have time to go into detail right now, but after three years it's pretty definitely the case. $500 for new batt, alt, and wiring --supposedly -- and the guy tells me "Tough. It's one day over the one-year warranty." One year for an alternator ?!?!?! A year ago it was a poorly performing alternator that was the problem and it still is?! I'll be taking this up with AAA and whoever else I can, but in the meantime . . . DON'T TRUST THE STATION AAA SENDS TO DO ANYTHING BUT WHAT THEY'RE SENT TO DO, AND DON'T GO TO THEM FOR ANYTHING ELSE!
