Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I drive a 2010 Chrysler town and country 3.3L with a yellow gas cap. I've
always used regular unleaded although my gas cap says I can use E85. I
had a catalytic converter replaced earlier this year and for the last few weeks
I've been getting a P0420 code for the catalytic converter. I took it back since
its under warranty for now and they are saying it could be clogged because
Im using the wrong gas, they said I should use premium or E85 not regular
unleaded. The reason I took it in because it was hesitating when I left a red
light a mile after leaving my house. My question is am I suppose to run
premium or is regular fine to run on?

A Flex Fuel engine can run pure gasoline, E10, E15 or E85 or any combination of these fuels.

A misfire can ruin a catalytic converter. Make sure the engine is tuned up and running properly before installing a new cat.

Read your owners manual, page 383, 384 and 385. https://cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/servicemanuals/chrysler/2010-townandcountry.pdf

From the manual. Fuel Requirements If your vehicle is E85 compatible, it will operate on unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87, or E85 fuel, or any mixture of these two fuels. For best results, a refueling pattern that avoids alternating between E85 and unleaded gasoline is recommended. When you do switch fuel types, it is recommended that: • you do not add less than 5 gal (19 L) when refueling • you drive the vehicle immediately after refueling for at least 5 miles (8 km)

Did you take it to the dealership or some car lot where you purchased? Any gasoline available today for sale to the public at the pump other than racing or aviation gas can be used in your vehicle. Someone is lying to you or doesn't know what they are talking about.

I've read the owners manual which I mentioned and I do believe the lady made something up. She said "Your suppose to use premium not regular". I know a lot of it is because they want to blame me for the catalytic converter going out again but I had no codes for any fuel system errors. I have a bad speed sensor and blender door for the rear getting stuck. Other codes for the catalytic converter. I took my car to MIDAS since they changed my catalytic converter this year.
