a code of p1055 ? was found for 2002 hyundai sonata. Believe it was a
transmission solenoid. Is it expensive or worth it to replace it if that is the
problem. Is it a major repair ?

Yes is is worth getting repaired. You may run into major trany problems if you don't. I don't believe it is a major repair, can be done without having the trany removed. Have the trany filter replaced also.
I had the same problem with my 2002 Sonata after replacing my radiator. I drove on highway and if felt like my tranny fell out of car, so i drove at slower speed to tranny shop and decided not to have them fix it and 4 days later it fixed it self (reset). Sometimes replacing parts such as a new radiator or tranny can cause the transmission to act up. Often times the COMPUTER just need to be RESET. Would have to look the code up or ask the dealer or shop to research it. That would save you plenty of money then getting repairs you do not need.
