Gas to the floor but Sonata wont accelerate - stays in the 2000 rpm range

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My Son's 2001 Hyundai Sonata V6 just stopped accelerating. If you push the gas to the floor whether in park, reverse, neutral and drive it tops out around 2000 rpm. He had to creep it down backstreets to get home at about 5-10 mph. Any ideas?
