Battery Drain

Asked by Frustratedandhateit Jun 03, 2018 at 08:07 PM about the 2010 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. Every day I try to
start my car my battery is dead. Convinced the
battery was bad bought a new one. Next day
battery is dead. So I run the battery drain test with
a volt meter. I have almost a ten amp draw on my
battery. I pull fuses until the draw goes away only
to find out it's the fuse that controls the fuel pump.
Some times my car is hard to start and I have to
engage the fuel pump a few times before starting. I
believe the fuel pump has lost its prime somehow
but can this cause a battery drain? Have you ever
heard of a fuel pump staying on ? What could be
causing this problem??? Please help

I'm not familiar with how long the 2011 model year fuel pump runs after shut down. It's usually only several seconds?!? The ECM has it on a timer to make sure the lines stay primed after engine shut down. If the pump relay is hanging up or is being continually commanded by the ECM. Go to your power module under the hood n look for the fuel pump relay n switch it with another of same part number or just pull the relay n do a voltage test for the relay solenoid to see if it's being commanded to stay on perpetually.

On your 2011 ram pull fuse 25 jumper fuse 7 I believe(power accessory ie your power/cig lighter) jump from that to where you pulled the fuse out of 25because it only gets power key on.The cause is a built in non repairable relay in that fuse box.I used a in line fuse. But I still have a draw somewhere? But my fuel pump doesn't stay on for an hour anymore.Still have a quick disconnect terminal to temp fix it.

Kirbyvillechl what exactly did you mean by jump? I'm having the same issues with my 2012 outdoorsman and may need to make the same modifications you are referring to, also did I you mean M25 to M07?

The reason the fuel pump stays running is because the tipum in the fuse box has gone bad. The dealership wants a pretty penny to fix the issues witch requires a new fuse box. What I did is run a black wire from the fuel pump fuse to the cigarette outlet fuse and the issue was fixed!

I agree with the idea of the fulepump remaining on after ignition is turned off seems to be a problem with Chrysler

I am having the same issue, 2011 Ram 1500 Hemi. Has bee to the dealership roughly 45 days on and off and no codes. New Battery, new alt, new fuel pump and I also have the fuel pump bypass because they wouldn’t recall it. Once I get started it will run but shut it off for the rest of the day and it’s dead the next morning. Any tips on what it could be?

I'm having the same drain. I already did the fule pump bypass. Everyone says it's the WIN module ( ignition ). I bypassed it today, and had the same battery drain. My next step is to put a kill switch on my ground. Shut it all down, that should stop it. FYI, a check valve in the fuel line will keep it pressured. Ram has a habit of draining back overnight, causing hard starts. Hit me with any fresh ideas if you got em. Hopefully my suffering can help some other Ram owner.

I am having the same problem with the battery drain the next day I pulled a bunch of fuses it seemed like it helped for a couple days then it did the same thing battery was dead in the morning then I started just disconnecting the positive battery terminal every night this way it wasn't dead the next morning and I couldn't stop my truck this morning to go to work I put the positive terminal back on and sounds like it wants to start but it doesn't I'm so frustrated I just flew out of state 3 months ago to buy the truck $5,500 beautiful looking truck interior and exterior I had the truck for a couple months and here the past month I've had the drain battery problem and I bought a brand new battery what is the easiest way for me to fix this problem I'm a single female not afraid to get my hands dirty by all means unfamiliar with the names of all that different parts on the vehicle this is the first time I've ever owned a rim!!! Somebody please help I'm so frustrated
