Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra GL Diesel and recently I've been having some problems. During a long driver hauling a heavily
loaded trailer I've noticed a large amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust and and a significant loss of power. The black
smoke starts appearing after the car goes over road bumps and holes at speed but it also appears randomly while driving on
highways at 40-70 km/h. It also happens while the revs are at the 2500-3000 range  and it seriously lacks power during the uphill
sections (note this hasn't happened before). Now I understand it's an old engine but it doesn't have a big mileage like most other
cars do with similar problems (around 60.000 kilometers). What could be the source of the problem and what would it cost me to
fix it?

1 Answer

Inspect the crankcase oil for presence of diesel fuel...combustion relies on just a tiny spritz of diesel fuel...it it's leakin' down may have caused premature wear...that's all I'm thinkin'...also take a gander at the coolant for the presence of oil~
