my light stays on saying trailer brake not connected when i dont have a trailer even connected to truck

think you are missing a plug that should be installed in the pigtail...don't know if you remember such a thing being there, but how are your brake lights/tail lights? affected by this 'trailer brake not connected' warning? is this on your computer display? or a warning bulb?
