Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I start the car quite a bit cloud of grayish
smoke comes out followed by blue smoke which
continues to come out. As soon as the enigne
warms up smoke disappears. I know it could be oil
being burned but could I Have all the possible
reasons please? Maybe its not oil at all? Also, once
someone told me that if you open the oil cap when
the car is running the oil should not spit. In this case
it does. But I have read a little but about it and
some poeple say it should spit (moving parts inside
it) and some people say it shouldnt (blowby gases).
Maybe it depends on the vehicle?

I would be greatful to receive some detailed answer.
Thank you!

Sounds like the valve guide seals may be leaking.

worn engine...do a compression test~ get a rebuild...at least new piston rings and hone~

Also a pcv acting up can sometimes cause blue smoke. That would be easier to check and repair if it's the issue.

there IS oil consumption? figured as much...when it heats up, due to expansion reduces the oil getting to where it shouldn't be~ OKAY, check the fluids...if the radiator fluid is low...suspect a cracked block...if it's OIL, like I say...may be time for an engine rebuild~

it should have at least 130,000 miles on it by now...it's had a good long life already~ invest in some work...or get a new one~
