325D M sport - cutting out

Asked by havo Sep 23, 2011 at 02:35 PM about the 2006 BMW 3 Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My BMW 325D randomly cuts out. There are no dashboard warning lights coming on and car so far has started again at the press of a button. I have has 'something electronic' replaced in my sterring column and the fuel filter switch (?). Is there anything else that anyone can recommend as to why I am having this persistant problem?? Any help would be gratefully appreciated as I love this car apart from this!

What year is the car??? It could be a sensor/relay or possibly the fuel pump, filter, or fuel pressure regulator is failing. Although you don't have a CEL (check engine light) check for trouble codes anyways with a OBD scanner/reader.

cheers Matt - it is a 2006 model. Scanner isnt showing anything either - will check out the potential symtoms that you have suggested...

Had the same problem with my BMW, after many pounds spent on a BMW diagnostic machine it turned out to be a cam shaft sensor. Cost £27 from BMW . £500 for them to fit it , but you can do it yourself with the right tool.

there is no fuel filter switch, maybe you change the fuel filter if so could be problem with the fuel pump. there is a fuel cut off switch in the trunk , check that.
