If the handle is completely broken off and you can see a metal retainer the looks like a "C", just push to one side (not in). The way it works in the C shaped retailer pivots on a long rod with then moves to hooks in (left and right of latch) inside the glove box receiver for the latch.
OK, what I meant to say is the "C" shaped clip works like a door knob. When pushed to one side it retracts the two wedged shape clips that hold it in.
