Have you checked the oil dipstick to make sure there is oil in the crankcase? Have you checked the battery to see if it is charged? Engines don't just cease up as if they have a finite service life, and then they go to engine heaven. If the red coolant light is on you may have a faulty temperature gauge or the coolant level is too low. Check Engine Light indicates that there may be a malfunction in the engine management system, the fuel injection system, the exhaust system, the ignition system, or the fuel system. The emission values may have been exceeded and the engine may be breaking into emergency mode. When you say Mercedes garage, is this the Mercedes dealer? In any case, I would strongly suggest that you get a second opinion before committing to pay for a new engine.

I forgot to mention that a Service Due light indicates that the vehicle requires the normal routine maintenance as recommended by the factory. It can be oil/filter change, transmission check or others. I have a 2017 Mercedes Benz E300, in this model the car displays the type of service required 300 miles before due. If you check the mileage in yours and read the manual, you will see what maintenance service is needed at this moment.
